"1600 YEARS OF ARCHITECTURE IN VENICE”, FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE CITY TO THE 2021 BIENNALE
2021 marks the 1600 years since the foundation of Venice, a long and interesting history that has led to the image and current conformation of the city with a decidedly unique architecture in the world. Byzantine architecture, Gothic architecture, Renaissance architecture, eighteenth-century buildings up to the most modern constructions coexist harmoniously.
Sumptuous palaces overlooking the Grand Canal, hundreds of churches, the iconic Basilica of San Marco, bridges of all styles and periods such as the Rialto, the Accademia bridge, the Ponte della Libertà and the so-called Ponte di Calatrava, buildings of great contemporary architects such as Carlo Scarpa, Rem Koolhaas, Tadao Ando and even Philippe Starck who designed our Palazzina Grassi.
Palazzina Grassi since its opening has always been linked to the world of architecture and with the package "1600 years of architecture in Venice" wants to give its guests the opportunity to make this fascinating journey from its foundation to the 2021 Architecture Biennale with its emblematic title "How will we live together?" which explores the role of architecture in addressing the challenges of contemporary society.
